The expo ran from 11 to 13 August 2026 at India Expo Centre & Mart in Greater Noida, with CBG as one of its core sectors. That's no coincidence. India's compressed biogas push has built plants across the country that need equipment designed for real feedstock, not lab-condition biomass. Getting solid feedstock into a digester sounds simple until you're running it daily. Plants generally rely on one of three approaches. Manual or loader-based feeding, where a wheel loader or labour crew pushes material into a hopper, works for small operations but doesn't scale and depends on the operator that day. Screw-only feeders move material mechanically but were built for dry, uniform inputs, not wet manure or long-strand straw. Dedicated substrate or dosing feeders sit between the storage yard and the digester's screw conveyor, controlling how much material goes in and at what rate. Each approach trades off differently on consistency, labour and equipment life.
Manure, silage and straw don't behave like the free-flowing granular material most feeding equipment was designed around. Manure is wet, sticky and inconsistent in density from one load to the next. Silage is fibrous and compacts under its own weight, which is exactly what causes bridging inside hoppers and augers, where material clumps and stops flowing instead of feeding through. Straw adds long fibres that wrap around augers and jam standard screw mechanisms outright.
The knock-on effects show up fast. Inconsistent dosing throws off the digester's feed schedule, which affects gas yield. Bridging and clogging mean more downtime and manual intervention, pulling labour away from other jobs. And the material itself, wet, abrasive and often mildly corrosive, wears down standard equipment faster than operators expect. A manure feeding system or silage feeder built for dry biomass tends to need constant babysitting. India's SATAT scheme and its wider waste-to-energy push have driven a wave of new CBG plant construction, and each of those plants needs a reliable way to move solid feedstock. No method suits every plant; a small operation running dry, uniform feedstock might suit a standard screw feeder. This is about matching equipment to the plant.
